2009 is the 40th Anniversary of the Des Moines Area Hunger Hike, and we want to celebrate the many congregations, agencies and individuals who have committed to reducing hunger. In the 22 years for which records are available, close to $900,000 has been collected for distribution to agencies local, national and international that provide FREE food.
People representing agencies, congregations, and many walkers at the Annual Distribution Supper in March 2009, heard a challenge from one of the board members: For the 2009 Hunger Hike, contribute at least $40 more than the highest amount given in the past. With current economic conditions, the need is increasing here in Des Moines and around the world, please join with many others and make this a record year. Together we can do it. We walk that more may eat...

Will there be any observance of the recent passing of Norman Borlaug at the Hunger Hike?

We haven't scheduled an observance. Ambassador Quinn and former Governor Robert Ray will be speaking prior to the hike, and I would expect one of them to show an observance.

Conferencing Software is the latest in global communication. Its been hot for a while now but has just gone into another gear. Hundreds of companies and products based on conferencing are popping up all over the net. It takes a little getting use to trying to focus on the camera to engage your audiance properly but is way worth it compared to offline meetings. The costs you can save are huge.
